3.16. IRM System

IRM is comprised of a suite of software components.  The most central components in this suite are as follows:

GLOBAL CONSOLE
a self-contained web application that serves as the starting point for all work on the IRM system. The Global Console also holds data that is shared across all Sites in an IRM deployment, such as IRM Library data.
SITE SERVER
holds a single IRM database containing all objects that relate to each other.  A single IRM deployment can have more than one Site Server, but objects from one Site Server cannot have references to objects in a different Site Server -- they are "separate universes" from IRM's viewpoint.  The Site Server suite has at least a Site Master server, plus potentially other servers depending the exact IRM configuration.
WEB CLIENT
web-based user interface for the Site Server suite.  It is a full-featured and robust "desktop app replacement" interface that provides a great many features for accessing and manipulating detailed IRM data.  Unlike the Global Console, which provides a much simpler interface (especially for non-admin users), the Web Client requires a thorough understanding of the Users' Guide documentation and some training in order to be used most effectively.

IRM is normally provided as a cloud-based software service ("SaaS") application, but can also be licensed for on-premises deployment.  Please contact Planet Associates for more information regarding deployment options.
