4.2. Overview

The IRM system includes two main user applications: the Global Console and the Web Client:
  • IRM is administered exclusively though this Global Console.
  • The Global Console provides administrative functionality and access to reports and exported data.
  • The IRM Web Client application provides the main interface for creating, altering and dynamically examining configuration data.

IRM administration is conducted in the following areas:

  • User administration
  • adding, removing and altering IRM Users and User Teams and viewing audit trail information regarding user activity

  • Permissions
  • creating and altering Site Groupings and Policies and assigning them to IRM Users.

Note: IRM Users refer to accounts that can login to the application and should not be confused with the "Users" tab within the the Web Client.

  • Managing reports and exported data
  • creating and altering Report and Export Configurations and Templates and scheduling Configurations to run automatically.

Note: unlike other administrative activities, these particular activities can also be done by ordinary IRM Users and Report Viewers.

  • Viewing and maintaining installation-level data
  • License
  • Library data import (applicable only for on-premises deployments, not for IRM SaaS)
  • Report data import (applicable only for on-premises deployments, not for IRM SaaS)

All of the above administrative activities are covered in this Administrators' Guide, except the report/export related activities, which are covered in the Report Viewers' Guide. The following subsections contain relevant background material required to understand IRM administration capabilities.
