4.3.6. Cable Management

In IRM, the Cable object is used to define all cable routes and connections between hardware. Cable objects are typed objects, meaning they are organized into Categories and Types in the Cable C&T tree (see Organizing Cable Types by Category Assignment).

Cablesets are used to insert one or more Cable objects in to the Design World.

Some examples of different usages of Cable objects:
  • Cable connecting user work areas to the local Telecom Room
  • Connecting to the Telecom Room to the MCR or Datacenter
  • InterRow backbones within the Datacenter and IntraRack cabling within each rack.
  • Connection to the OSP or WAN Service Provider

Cable routed between ducts in a maintenance hole using the Butterfly View

Cables routed through pathways between buildings &  manholes in an outside plant

This section will introduce the user to the following functions:
  • Cable definition creating a new Cable Set
  • Cable creation and routing in the Design World using an ad-hoc Cable Set
  • Cable creation and routing in the Design World using predefined Cable Sets
