Other Filter menu options
This section covers each of the options from the filter drop-down menu in the Object Grid toolbar, as can be seen in the screenshot below, except for the Filter Manager, which is covered in the previous topic:
Most of these options are for using some variation of the currently visible or selected Design World objects as a filter for the Object Grid. These features make it easy to see some of the properties of Design World objects, without opening the Properties dialog for each object.
Filter by Active Area
This filter option uses the currently active (opened) Area as a filter for the objects currently displayed in the Object Grid. This mode is only applicable to Object Grid tabs that show objects which are contained in an Area -- in other words, those that can be drawn in the Design World. When this option is selected, the current Object Grid tab automatically filters out objects not assigned to the currently active Area, leaving only objects that appear in the active Area.
The screenshot image below shows an example use of this option, that is, the resulting Object Grid view when this option is enabled while the currently opened Area is "Building 1 Floor 1". Notice the object Grid shows different Equipment instances, all which have the same Area (rightmost column), which is the expected result of applying this filter:
If the user opens another Design World Area and that is now set as the active one, the list of objects in the Object Grid automatically gets updated to be filtered by that other Area. When applied, this filter option is indicated by a small label, as for other types of active filters:
Clicking on the "x" button on the label removes the filter and therefore brings back the original, unfiltered Object Grid view.
Filter by Visible Objects
This option uses the visible Design World Area(s) as a dynamic filter for the objects currently displayed in the Object Grid. When in this mode, the current Object Grid tab is dynamically loaded according to what is currently shown in all visible Design World canvases.
The screenshot image below shows example results from this filter mode, that is, the resulting Object Grid view. Notice the Rack instance displayed in the Design World is listed in the Object Grid's resulting view:
If the user pans or zooms the view, the list of objects and the Object Grid automatically gets updated / reloaded. This mode is also only applicable to Object Grid tabs that show objects that can be drawn in Design World.
When applied, this filtering option is indicated by a small label, as for other types of active filters:
Clicking on the "x" button on the label removes the filter and therefore brings back the original, unfiltered Object Grid view.
Filter by Selected Objects
This filter option uses the currently selected objects in the Design World Area(s) as a dynamic filter for the objects currently displayed in the Object Grid. This mode is only applicable to Object Grid tabs that show objects that can be drawn in Design World.
When in this mode, the current Object Grid tab is dynamically filtered by what is currently selected in all visible Design World canvases, as can be seen in the example screenshot below:
If the user selects more objects, or de-selects previously selected objects, the list of objects in the Object Grid is automatically updated. When applied, this filtering option is indicated by a small label, as for other types of active filters:
Clicking on the "x" button on the label removes the filter and therefore brings back the original, unfiltered Object Grid view.
Filter by Selected Objects w/ Children
This filter option uses the currently selected objects in the Design World Area(s), and their child objects, as a dynamic filter for the Object Grid. This mode is only applicable to Object Grid tabs that show objects that can be drawn in the Design World.
When in this mode, the current Object Grid tab is dynamically filtered to what is currently selected in all visible Design World canvases. The difference between this and the previous filter mode is that this mode also includes child objects, even though they are not displayed in the Design World.
The screenshot below shows the same objects from the previous example selected, but using this filter option - notice more objects are listed in resulting Object Grid view, since child objects have been included:
If the user selects more objects, or de-selects previously selected objects, the list of objects in the Object Grid is automatically updated. When applied, this filtering option is indicated by a small label, as for other types of active filters:
Clicking on the "x" button on the label removes the filter and therefore brings back the original, unfiltered Object Grid view.
Delete All Filtered
The last option from this list works differently from the others: it enables deleting all objects that match the current set of filters, regardless of the type of applied filter. Selecting this option doesn't instantly remove the objects; a pop-out dialog opens explaining what this option does and asking the user to confirm removal:
If Yes is clicked, the matching objects will get deleted and thus removed from the current Object Grid view.
