By Lifecycle Stage

Equipment can be removed from the design world by setting an appropriate pre-defiend lifecycle stage. By using this lifecycle stage mechanism, the equipment will not be deleted from the database so it can continue to be managed under IRM.

A Lifecycle stage is a state value associated with the Equipment object. It can be one of the following predefined values:
An asterisk (*) indicates that the lifecycle stage is compatible with the Design World and means that it will not be removed from the Design World in this state. However, if the Equipment object transitions from an * lifecycle state to a non-*  lifecycle state, then the Equipment will be removed from the Design World and any cables will be disconnected. See Lifecycle Stages for additional details.

TIP: it is possible for an administrator to create new custom lifecycle stages.
