Connecting Equipment Ports using Cable Media

The following use case scenario is an example of Media Connection Mapping, used for connecting the first two Cable Media entries to the first two Connection Points within an Equipment Port and the third and fourth Cable Media entries to the last two Connection Points within the same Equipment Port.
1

Select and open Equipment Properties dialog

1. Select and open Equipment Properties dialog
A single left click on the Faceplate equipment object in Design World selects it. Right click opens its context menu with Edit Properties... option that opens the appropriate Equipment Properties dialog.
2

Select a Port to connect

Select an appropriate row entry from the list of Ports. This enables the Connect Cables button, which when clicked opens the Available Cables for Connections sub-dialog displayed below. In this example a termination-side Port is selected. This Port has a Bare Copper Plug type with 8 Connection Points, allowing individual copper Media (i.e., wires) to be connected to each of the 8 Ports.
3

Select Media to connect

Select one or more items from the list of available Media. Once some Media are selected, the Connect button is enabled. Click on it opens the Media Connection Mapping sub-dialog. In this example four Media from a Bare Copper Cable are selected for connecting to the Port.

Select order of Connection Point - Media connections

4. Select order of Connection Point - Media connections
The Media Connection Mapping sub-dialog displays two columns - Connection Point, which lists all Connection Points of the selected Port on equipment; and the Assigned Media column, which lists all Media entries of the selected Cable. This feature is useful in cases where a specific mapping of Connection Point to Cable Media is needed.
In this example, Media #3 and Media #4 need to be connected to the last two Connection Points on the equipment, while the four Connection Points in the middle are left available for other cables to connect later. This is done by clicking on the appropriate row under the Assigned Media column and clicking the down arrow button next to the grid.
5

Confirm order of Connection Point - Media connections

5. Confirm order of Connection Point - Media connections
Click on the Connect button under the grid to confirm the Media to Connection Point assignments.
6

View created connection

The fields under the Connected Cable column group are populated and the newly created connection can be made permanent by clicking on the Save button, or discarded by clicking on the Cancel button. The Media Connection Mapping is visible under the Media# column, with the connected Media entries enumerated as configured in the previous step and the non-connected plugs set as "-1".
