DDR Import of Types

 

 

The DDR Import feature also allows Managed Object Types to be created, including:

 

The currently-implemented version of this feature supports only "basic" Types in that it doesn't support the definition of helper objects (such as Port Definitions and Slot Definitions) as part of the DDR Import. Of course, such features can be added separately by the user, using the existing IRM Properties dialogs, as a secondary step after DDR Import. 

 

 

This type-level DDR Import feature is simpler to operate than the instance-level mode, because there is no notion of placement in the Design World. The main feature points and differences between this and other DDR Import modes are covered through the following use case of importing a Cable Type:

 

Step 1 -

the same as for other DDR Import modes, this just involves supplying the CSV file and indicating what kind of objects you want to create:

 

 

Note: As implied by the available options, Types can be updated, but note that there are restrictions on such updates (certain fields cannot be updated) after the Type has been used to create instance objects.  Therefore, it is important to complete the definition of a Type before attempting to use it to create instances.

 

Step 3 -

Translation Tables, field Mapping Configuration, sample Row Count, checking for Name Duplication, and User Filters work as in other DDR Import modes:

 

Step 4 -

Finally, after a successful import one can continue with the configuration of the newly created Cable Type object. This includes any helper objects, such as Plug Definitions and Media Types for the Cable Type.
