IRM allows the user to add Software into Equipment using DDR import in the following ways:
Assign existing Software Instances to Equipment during Equipment Creation or Update using the Software(array) column.
For example, if we want to assign 3 existing Software instances to an Equipment being created or updated via DDR, the software assignments are assigned to the equipment using the CSV column named Software and each software instance name to assign to the equipment would be defined within an array structure [ ] and each instance name would be defined within double quotes as shown in the following example:
Create Software objects during the process of creating Equipment objects.
To enable the user to specify which kind of Software object to create, there are a few special target fields for that need to be mapped during the Equipment DDR import (Column Mapping step of the DDR Import Wizard).
Doing so, a new Software instance is automatically created and assigned it to the imported Equipment. The Lifecycle Stage of the newly imported Software is set to the same value as the Lifecycle Stage of the parent Equipment. The Parent field is also set automatically, along with the matching back reference to the Equipment object. When updating Equipment objects, DDR Import also processes these fields and if at least one of them does not match with the existing Software, then a new Software object is created.
Note: option 2 only allows a single software object to be assigned to the equipment at the same time as creating new equipment using DDR import.
