Importing CAD files

 
IRM supports importing drawing data from CAD systems using the DWG, DXF, and DGN file formats. IRM's CAD file import feature supports 2D drawing data only, for purposes of showing floorplans and siteplans in Areas.
 
The process of importing CAD file data using IRM provides considerable flexibility. This section will help the user to understand the process and the options available when importing CAD files into an existing Area in the Design World.
 
The use case for importing CAD files is more complex than that of shapefiles due to layer mapping, block mapping, and import positioning. 
To do those steps, it is necessary for the IRM web client to receive some intermediate information back from the server and therefore the interaction is broken down into several parts, all of which are incorporated into a single CAD file import wizard.
  
The import drawing process is started from an Area that has previously been opened in the Design World, by right-click in the Areas drawing Canvas and selecting the Upload CAD file... option from the context menu, which starts the Import CAD file wizard.
 
The flow of the operation from that point is as follows:
