In IRM there are several ways to create a Circuit object:
by click on the Add button from the Object Grid,
or by selecting the Create Instance option from the Circuit Type C&T tree context menu.
from a Path Tracing sequence
This topic explains both use cases trough the following screenshot images and text:
Create a Circuit by click on the Add button
The first way to create a new Circuit instance is by click on the + button in the top-left of the Object Grid, while the Circuits tab is selected:
This opens the Create New Circuit pop-out dialog displaying Circuit Categories and Types in a tree structure (similar to the C&T tree) for selecting a Circuit Type to be used to define the new Circuit instance:
Click on a Circuit Type enables the OK button at the bottom of the sub-dialog, while clicking on it closes this and opens a new instance of the Circuit Properties dialog with default properties:
This dialog is used to define all properties for the new Circuit instance. Some fields, like Name and Lifecycle Stage are pre-specified, while others are left blank. After the appropriate fields are given values, click on the Save button saves the newly created Circuit object and closes the Circuit Properties dialog.
The newly created Circuit object is automatically added and highlighted in the Circuits tab in the Object Grid:
Although Circuits are not Design World objects themselves, they are directly associated with Design World objects and therefore indirectly associated with Areas. Similarly, Pathways and Racks can contain objects that are involved in Circuits and therefore we enable Circuits to be filterable by those objects. This is enabled by the Paste as Filter feature, with the exception that these objects aren't in the C&T tree, so they need to be copied to the Clipboard either from the context menu or the designated button on the bottom of the dialog. Equipment and Cable objects already contain fields that give the user a list of Circuits the Equipment/Cable is involved in, this is a convenient feature that enables filtering Circuits from the Object Grid.
Create a Circuit by selecting the Create Instance option from the Circuit Type C&T tree context menu
Another way to create a new Circuit instance is to select the Create Instance... option from the context menu for the appropriate Circuit Type under the C&T tree. Unlike in the previous point, this directly opens a new instance of the Circuit Properties dialog with the default fields set, since the Circuit Type is already selected (no Create New Circuit pop-out dialog from previous point).
Finally, a new Circuit instance can be created via another Circuit-related feature - Path Trace, which enables tracing physically connected sequences of Equipment and Cables. The Path Trace dialog enables creating a new Circuit instance out of an existing Path Step sequence by clicking on the New Circuit button (outlined red in screenshot above).
This opens the Create New Circuit pop-out dialog (as in point 1) for selecting a Circuit Type, after which a new instance of the Circuit Properties dialog is opened, with the Path Step tab already populated with Path Steps copied from Path Trace dialog:
