Layer Manager dialog details

This section focuses on the common properties of different tabs of the Layer Manager dialog. Note that this refers to the drawable managed object Super Categories, which have dedicated tabs in the dialog. As an example, this following section will use the Equipment Super Category to provide more details about the dialog features.

1

Select Variety drop-down menu

Click on the Select Variety drop-down menu displays a single-selection list of varieties:

All Super Category tabs in the Layer Manager contain this drop-down menu, except for the General Architecture tab (see one of points below for more detail about that particular tab). For a full explanation about how Layer Varieties work, click on the following topic - Layer precedence.

Layer data grid

The main data grid displays a detailed list of all Layers of the same (selected) Variety. Each row item represents a Layer and displays its style parameters and offers additional Action (and non-Action) buttons. Layers nearer to the top of the Layer list in this grid have a higher precedence. For more detail about Layer Precedence click on the following topic - Layer precedence.
- indicates whether a Layer is enabled or disabled in the Design World. Disabled Layers are not visible in the Design World until they are enabled again by clicking on this checkbox. For each variety, the highest precedence Layer that applies to an object type and has the enabled checkbox selected (checked) is currently the active one for that object. This flag gives a quick and temporary way
of altering which Layer is active, without re-shuffling the Layer list or deleting Layers.
Edit button, opens the Style Editor sub-dialog containing the Layer's properties. The Preview section in the bottom half of the sub-dialog shows a sample object for the selected layer with applied properties (see point 6 for more details).
Visible / Not Visible toggle button (toggles the Layer's visibility in the Design World).
Selectable / Not selectable toggle button (toggles the Layer's selectability in the Design World)
Delete button removes the Layer completely, with the appropriate Confirmation pop-out dialog

Layer reordering / precedence assignment is enabled in 2 ways:
  • Click & Drag the row entry
  • Select the row and click arrows on right side of the grid (explained below):
- Move selected layer to top of list giving it the highest layer precedence over all other layers.
- Move selected layer up one layer in the list, giving it precedence of the layer that was previously directly above the selected layer.
- Move selected layer down one layer in the list, depreciating its precedence of the layer that was previously directly below the selected layer
- Move selected layer to bottom of list giving it the lowest layer precedence under all other layers.

Object grids in all tabs in the Layer Manager dialog (except for the Quick Switch tab) enable a way to turn the visibility of many Layers on and off quickly, along with other bulk features as it follows:

  • Range (consecutive row) selection via shift key + mouse click, like in spreadsheets

  • Multiple individual (non-consecutive) layer (row) selection via CTRL key + mouse click, like in spreadsheets

  • When multiple Layers (rows) are selected, clicking the Delete, Selectable, or Visible action buttons for any of the selected rows perform that operation on all of the selected rows (visible button clicked for multiple layers on the example screenshot image below)

  • For Category and Type Layers, when more than one row is selected, the Layer precedence movement buttons work as before, for both contiguous and discontiguous rows selection.
