While the IRM Equipment Library contains a large number of commonly used Equipment Types, occasionally a customer will have a type of equipment that is not in the Library. In this case, it is necessary to create a new Equipment Type. In IRM deployments, this is usually done early on in the project, and can be undertaken by the customer or by Planet Associates Professional Services personnel who have expertise in this area.
It is possible to define a new Equipment Type from two places in the application:
from Object Grid, by opening the Equipment Type tab and clicking on the + button
from C&T tree, by selecting the appropriate Category and selecting the "+ Create Equip Type" context menu option
In the first case the Category field will be left empty, while in the second case the selected Category will automatically added to the appropriate field. In any case, an Equipment Type can be assigned to multiple Categories by simply copy and pasting a Category from the C&T tree into the Categories field.
To define a new Equipment Type, some mandatory fields in the Equipment Type Properties dialog and its associated tabs need to be configured to fully define the new Equipment Type. The required fields are displayed in bold font. In case the Save button isn't enabled, in general there is a good chance it's because some mandatory field hasn't been filled out, or somehow got deleted or omitted.
IMPORTANT: If the Show Environmental Fields? property value is set to unchecked, or false for an Equipment Type, all fields in the Environmental Field Spec group will be hidden in the General and Type tabs of the Equipment & Equipment Type Properties dialogs, and the Environmental section itself should not be shown. Clicking on the checkbox next to this option will make all the fields belonging to that UI group visible.
Clicking on the Save button closes the dialog and displays the new object in the Object grid and the C&T Tree. To cancel the creation, click Cancel button, which will close the dialog and bring focus back to the main screen.
