The Toolbox menu is located on the left side of the Design World. It contains many different controls and can be hidden if you need more space for the drawing region. Hiding it is done by a toggle button above it (three left arrows) - the same button, if clicked again, expands the toolbox to the bottom and moves the drawing slightly to the right (second image):
The following is a list of all controls in the Toolbox, broken down into three sections, with description and/or links to dedicated topics that provide additional information about each feature:
Controls for adding new objects
The following buttons enable the user to directly add
decorative drawing objects: Lines, Arcs, Text, Images and Blocks
and Managed objects: Equipment, Cables, Pathways, Maintenance Holes, Locations
into the Design World.
Lines, Arcs and Text get created automatically upon the button click and can be immediately positioned into the Design World. For all other types of objects, clicking on these buttons opens an additional dialog that enables specification of properties specific to that type of object.
The following are links to topics that explain the creation of each type of object in detail (placed next to the relevant button):
The middle Toolbox section gives access to various "manager" dialogs, which allow altering what is shown in the Design World canvas, without affecting any managed object data (except for the Trigger-Action Manager):
- opens the Layer Manager dialog, which allows the user to customize the drawing style of Design World objects in many different ways; more details in Layer Manager.
- opens the Label Set Manager dialog, which allows the user to specify custom Label Sets used to define a label displaying a set of object-related fields; more details in Object Labeling.
- opens the Analytic Manager dialog, which allows objects that meet some criteria to be viewed in a stylized way, providing a kind of instant visual reporting feature; more details in Analytics Manager.
- opens the Trigger-Action Manager dialog, which is meant to generate alerts to IRM Users, or notify external systems about some change in the IRM system; more details in Trigger Action Manager.
- opens the View Manager dialog, which allows the user to create "bookmarks" in the Design World, so that a particular spot can be quickly accessed; more details in Views.
- opens the Block Manager dialog, which allows the user to manage Blocks used for footprint images in Design World; more details in Block Manager.
Toggle controls for filtering Design World objects
The following controls enable directly altering what is shown in the Design World canvas for all currently active (opened) Areas:
- Apply Object Grid Filter - a toggle button that applies or removes the currently active Object Grid filter (Named Filter, Quick Filter, or Convenience Filter) to the objects in the Design World. In most cases this means only the objects that meet the filter criteria will remain in the current view in the Design World. The filter is removed (and other objects made visible again) simply by clicking again on the toggle button.
- Toggle Frozen / Live clones - a toggle button that displays or hides Live / Frozen MAC objects. An appropriate icon and text label appear in the bottom-left corner of the drawing area to indicate if the "frozen" view is active. Note that the frozen version of objects are the ones before any changes were made under a currently open MAC. To bring back the "live" view, simply click again on the same toggle button:
- Unhighlight Circuits - button that un-highlights any previously highlighted Circuits, similar to the Unhighlight All Area context menu option, except it applies only for Circuit objects.
- Show / Hide Grid - toggle button that enables or disables the visibility of the background grid in the Design World canvas.
- Snap to Grid - toggle button that alters the way an object can be moved around in the Design World. When Snap to Grid mode is enabled (blue icon), an object can be moved only in discrete space units, so an object can be moved on exactly five positions on one side inside a single grid quadrant, as it is "locked down" into pre-specified positions inside a quadrant. This feature is very useful for aligning multiple objects in Design World along common vertical and horizontal lines. Alternatively, when Snap to Grid mode is disabled (black icon), an object can be moved independently of the grid.
- Show / Hide Background Images - toggle button that enables or disables the visibility of any background images.
- Show Alternative Circuit Path - toggle button that switches between the primary and alternate paths for Circuits.
The following toggle buttons enable or disable the colored notification messages that appear in the top-right corner of the application due to various events:
- Show / Hide Object Command Popups
- Show / Hide Sync Events Popups
- Show / Hide Selection Command Popups
- Show / Hide View Command Popups
Finally, the last two buttons are for measuring distance between two objects and for reloading all objects on the canvas:
- Measure - sets the mouse cursor in a drawing mode, displaying it as a crosshair. A single left-click on the canvas (drawing area) creates the first point for measuring, indicated by a small solid black circle icon. Another left-click adds another segment to the route, indicated by a small hollow circle icon. The cursor coordinates and length of the route are displayed at the end of each segment within the measured route. The route is indicated with a dashed line. When the desired measurement is completed, a double-click ends the process.
- Reload All - refreshes the drawing area and all its containing objects.
